IEC 60598
Işık Test Ekipmanları Sabit Sıcaklık Su Banyosu.
A constant-temperature water bath is laboratory equipment used in the thermal characterisation and qualification of lighting equipment — including LED drivers, ballast assemblies, lamp components and luminaire sub-assemblies. The bath provides a controlled-temperature immersion or surrounding environment that holds the equipment under test at a precise temperature while electrical, photometric and thermal parameters are measured.
Constant-temperature water baths support thermal endurance, life-cycle and electrical characterisation procedures referenced in IEC 60598 (luminaires) and IEC 61347 (lamp control gear).
Test scope
The bath maintains a defined liquid temperature for extended durations, allowing the equipment under test to reach thermal equilibrium before measurement. Liquid temperature control is typically far more stable than air-circulation temperature control, making the water bath the preferred reference environment for:
- Ballast and LED driver thermal endurance evaluation
- Component temperature coefficient measurement
- Steady-state thermal characterisation of sealed lamp assemblies
- Calibration of temperature sensors used in luminaire control loops
Method reference
- IEC 60598-1 — General requirements for luminaires; references controlled-temperature environments for endurance and thermal classification tests
- IEC 61347 — Lamp control gear; thermal evaluation procedures
- IEC 60068-2 — Some lighting components reference IEC 60068-2 climatic test methods that can be executed in a controlled-liquid environment
Configuration
- Stainless steel internal tank with insulation and circulation pump
- PID-controlled heating element with over-temperature safety cutout
- Operator interface for temperature setpoint, hold time and event logging
- Optional cooling coil interface for sub-ambient operation
Working volume, temperature range, and stability are configurable to the intended test method (luminaire conditioning, photometric pre-stabilisation, ageing). Specifications are finalised at the quotation stage based on the applicable product standard and the equipment under test.
Use case
- LED driver and ballast manufacturer R&D laboratories
- Luminaire OEM thermal validation programmes
- Lighting component lifecycle evaluation
- Quality control sampling for lamp control gear production
- Calibration laboratories for lighting industry sensors
Engineering notes
The choice of working fluid (water, water-glycol mix, mineral oil) affects the achievable temperature range and chemical compatibility with the equipment under test. Water baths are inherently limited to sub-boiling temperatures; higher-temperature requirements use thermal fluids in equivalent baths. For lighting equipment with exposed electrical terminals, sealed test fixtures or partial-immersion holders are required to prevent water contact with live circuits while maintaining thermal coupling.
Standard reference
A constant-temperature water bath holds samples at a stable, controlled temperature for tests that require thermal stability — for example conditioning luminaire components before or during measurement under IEC 60598. The bath maintains the set temperature within a narrow tolerance.
