IEC 60598
Tumbling Barrel Test Device.
Repeated free-fall tumbling test for luminaire robustness (IEC 60598)
The Tumbling Barrel Test Device assesses the mechanical robustness of luminaires and lighting components by repeatedly tumbling the specimen inside a rotating steel barrel, subjecting it to a series of controlled free-fall impacts.
As the barrel rotates, the specimen falls from a defined height onto steel surfaces, reproducing the knocks and drops of handling and service; a timer and drop counter control the number of cycles.
ULMEKA designs and manufactures this equipment in-house; barrel dimensions, drop count and timing are configured to the applicable test requirements on request.
Standard reference
The tumbling-barrel (barrel-drop) test of IEC 60598-1 and related accessory standards subjects small components — such as luminaire parts, plugs or accessories — to repeated falls inside a rotating barrel, to verify that the enclosure and protection withstand the mechanical stresses of normal handling.
