The Heating Test Corner reproduces a room corner so that the surface and surrounding temperature rise of an appliance operating under normal conditions can be measured. This is the heating test of IEC/EN 60335-1 Clause 11: the appliance is placed in the corner and the temperature rise of the walls, floor and nearby surfaces is recorded against the limits in the standard.

The same test corner is the setup defined in the general standard IEC/EN 60335-1 and inherited right across the household and similar electrical appliances family. The particular Part 2 standards build on it with their own placement rules — for example IEC/EN 60335-2-6 for stationary ovens and cooking ranges, IEC/EN 60335-2-9 for grills and cooking appliances, and IEC/EN 60335-2-25 for microwave ovens — and the North American UL/CSA 60335-1 adopts the same corner. So a single piece of equipment serves the heating test across a large group of appliance standards.

The corner is built from matte-black painted plywood walls and floor. Surface temperature is read by 15 mm × 1 mm copper discs mounted flush to the inner surfaces and painted black on a 100 mm grid; a J-type thermocouple (Class 1 to IEC/EN 60584-1) is welded to the back of each disc and routed through channels to DB25 / ECU connectors with quick-connect terminals. The discs are replaceable by laboratory staff and the panels are hinged so the corner can be separated for maintenance.

ULMEKA supplies the corner as a set sized to the laboratory: two room corners (1000 × 1500 × 2000 mm and 1200 × 2000 × 2000 mm) and a 600 × 600 × 600 mm oven corner to IEC/EN 60335-2-6. Thermocouples can be supplied with accredited, internationally traceable calibration certificates over the working range (e.g. 25–150 °C).

ULMEKA designs and manufactures this equipment. Corner sizes, thermocouple count and grid, connector layout and calibration scope are built to the laboratory and the applicable standard; the exact configuration is defined during the quotation stage.
