IPX3 – IPX4 (Oscillating Tube Tester) – IPX9K Protection Tests
The IPX3 – IPX4 – IPX9K Protection Tests determine the water resistance of devices. These protection classes are based on the IEC 60529 standard and are also compatible with other standards such as UL, EN, and TSE. Each protection class tests the device’s durability against water from different pressures and directions.
IPX3 – Protection Against Spraying Water
Test Method: IPX3 tests the device’s resistance to spraying water at an angle of up to 60 degrees. Water is sprayed in a fan-like shape, typically at a rate of 10 liters per minute for 5 minutes.
Standards:
- IEC 60529 (Section 14.2.4)
- EN 60529
- UL 50E (For enclosures)
- TSE EN 60529 (Turkish Standard)
Applications: Suitable for devices exposed to light rain or water splashes.
IPX4 – Protection Against Splashing Water
Test Method: IPX4 tests the device’s resistance to water splashing from all directions. The device is sprayed with 10 liters of water per minute for 5 minutes.
Standards:
- IEC 60529 (Section 14.2.5)
- EN 60529
- UL 50E
- TSE EN 60529
Applications: Suitable for devices exposed to water splashes from faucets or outdoor conditions.
IPX9K – Protection Against High-Pressure and High-Temperature Water Jets
Test Method: IPX9K tests the device’s resistance to high-pressure water jets. Water is sprayed from all directions at 80-100 bar pressure and a flow rate of 14-16 liters per minute. The water temperature can reach up to 80°C.
Standards:
- ISO 20653 (Section 7.3)
- IEC 60529 (Section 14.2.9)
- SAE J575 (For automotive components)
- EN 60529 (For electrical devices)
- UL 50E (For electrical enclosures)
- TSE EN 60529
Applications: Suitable for vehicles subject to high-pressure washing, industrial machines, and equipment exposed to harsh outdoor conditions.
